BACKGROUND
I am restless and open to evolution.

I was born in the Dominican Republic and was raised both there and in the United States. At age 14, I knew that I wanted to become an artist, and became rather single minded about it. I attended the High School of Art and Design in New York. Everyone was vibrant and committed to art as a lifestyle at a young age. I received a full scholarship to the Rhode Island School of Design. My work at RISD helped me to understand the creative process and how to problem solve. These skills allowed me to branch into different disciplines. I discovered the passion that fuels my work is the same, only the medium changes. I attended Brown University while still at RISD where I found the liberal arts curriculum more intellectually rigorous.

Life is never constant. Things change: your environment, the seasons, one's sense of self. I went to Italy with RISD's European Honor's Program. For three years, I lived with the masterpieces that are our inheritances as artists. The Renaissance artists are my mentors. You will find many different disciplines in this website. Though the work is varied, it is closely related. One discipline touches another; one development gives birth for another. In Italy, I found validation for this way of working.

An opportunity to exhibit in the Dominican Republic arose. I hadn't been home in fifteen years. I applied myself to the business of finding my roots again. I sat in the jungle and painted. The shows were resounding successes. I received a teaching position at Parsons School of Design affiliate in the Dominican Republic. I shared my love of art with my students and they, in turn, shared their dreams and energy with me. I painted, exhibited, and lectured, but it was my exposure to the artistic life of prominent contemporray artists that has stayed with me. I met and collaborated with artists such as Willi Smith, Nancy Graves, and Larry Rivers, but the person who remains a beacon in my creative life to this day is the artist Antonio Lopez.

I moved back to the United States, continued teaching at Parsons and privately and exhibited in group shows of Caribbean artists. I moved to Woodstock, New York in 1996. Living in a community of artists within the natural world, has allowed me to focus on my art in a way preiously unencountered.

Living life as an artist makes me open to expression. I would not live my life any other way.
